We visited Prague Castle with a Local Guide and this is our review

If you’re looking for an amazing Prague Castle tour, look no further! We recently went on a tour with a local guide and had a blast. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided lots of interesting commentary throughout the tour. We saw some amazing sights, including St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, and St. George’s Basilica. We highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Prague Castle.  Thanks for a great experience!

We met our guide Hannah in front of the Malostranská metro station near the Mánes Bridge. From there, we took the tram up to Prague Castle. Once inside, our guide gave us headphones so that you can easily hear her commentary throughout the tour which was really helpful. There is a lot of noise  inside Prague Castle since it is such a popular tourist spot.

We started off by admiring the St. Vitus’ Gothic architecture. Our guide pointed out some of the more interesting features of the church, like the gargoyles that adorn the exterior. We were also dazzled by the Art-Nouveau stained glass window made by Czech artist Alfons Mucha. Another highlight was the 14th-century mosaic of the last judgment.

We also headed to the Old Palace and saw Vlasislav Hall, the former residence of Czech kings.  Our guide told us some stories about the kings who used to live there and what life was like in Prague Castle back in the day.  The Old Royal Palace is one of the oldest buildings in Prague Castle. It was originally built in the 9th century as a residence for Czech kings. The palace was rebuilt several times over the years, and today it features Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture.

We also visited tombs of St. Wenceslas and Charles IV, the baroque tomb of St. John of Nepomuk, and Prague’s royal oratory. We ended our tour in one of Prague Castle’s courtyards where our guide told us a bit about Prague Castle’s history.

Among other things we visited the Golden Lane.  This is a street lined with colorful houses that used to be the homes of castle servants and artisans. It’s definitely worth a visit! Hannah, the tour guide told us a few interesting things about the Golden Lane including  that Franz Kafka used to live there.

Hannah was one of the best tour guide we’ ve ever had! She was very knowledgeable about the Castle’s history and made the tour quite entertaining! She was an excellent tour guide, and we learnt a lot on our visit to the royal castle. She was extremely knowledgeable about trails and history, not just from a historical standpoint, but also from the perspectives of architecture, Czech economy, and politics. She always attempted to keep us out of the lines and in the shade during the noon heat.

Her knowledge of history, architecture, and folklore made it well worth arranging a tour, as we learned things we would not have known otherwise.” She’d lecture us about Czech history, culture, and daily life while we were walking from place to place. It wasn’t anticipated, but it made the trip more personal, fascinating, and educational. She created the ideal blend of fascinating facts, amusing stories, and antidotes. Hana enhanced the trip by eloquently explaining all of the places and providing excellent expertise throughout.
