Český Krumlov: A Fascinating Day Trip from Prague

Český Krumlov is one of the most beautiful places in the Czech Republic and it’s a great place to visit on a day trip from Prague. Český Krumlov is located about 150 kilometers from Prague and it takes about 2-3 hours to get there by car. There are also buses that go from Prague to Český Krumlov, but they are not as frequent as the trains. The easiest way to visit Český Krumlov is with an organized tour  from Prague. Český Krumlov is a very popular tourist destination, so be prepared for crowds if you visit during the summer months.

Some of the main sights in Český Krumlov are the Český Krumlov State Castle, the Castle Museum and Tower, and the Marionette Museum.

Český Krumlov State Castle

 The Český Krumlov State Castle is one of the largest castles in Central Europe and it’s a great place to learn about the history of Český Krumlov.

The Český Krumlov State Castle was originally built in the 13th century as a Gothic castle. The castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance and Baroque styles in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Český Krumlov State Castle is now a museum and it’s open for tours. The castle has a large collection of paintings, sculptures, and other works of art from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. There are also exhibits on the history of Český Krumlov and the Czech  Republic. Some of the most famous sculptures are  the statues of Hercules and Samson that were made by the Italian artist Giovanni Maria Mosca in 1696.

If you are planning to visit Český Krumlov State Castle you must  purchase a ticket in advance. Tickets can be bought online or at the Český Krumlov Visitor Center. But you book an a day trip to Český Krumlov, a ticket for the Castle is usually included in the price.

Český Krumlov Castle Tower

One of the most famous things to see in Český Krumlov State Castle is  the Český Krumlov Castle Tower. The Český Krumlov Castle Tower is the tallest tower in Český Krumlov and it offers great views of Český Krumlov and the surrounding area.  The Český Krumlov Castle Tower is also a great place to learn about the history of Český Krumlov. The tower has a exhibit on the history of Český Krumlov State Castle and the Český Krumlov region.

The Český Krumlov Castle Tower is open for tours from April to October. Tickets can be bought online or at the Český Krumlov Visitor Center. If you book an organized day trip to Český Krumlov, a ticket for the tower is usually included in the price.

The Marionette Museum

 Český Krumlov is also home to the Marionette Museum, which has a collection of over 200 marionettes from the 18th and 19th centuries. The museum also has puppets from other countries, as well as a library with books about puppetry.

The Church of St. Vitus in Český Krumlov

The Church of St. Vitus is one of the most important historical buildings in Český Krumlov. The architecture is  really beautiful and the interior of the church is very ornate. Especially the Gothic fresco of St. Catherine on the north wall is  worth seeing.  

Ceske Budejovice

If you are about to visit Český Krumlov, it is worth to makČeské Budějovice, also known as Budweis, is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located about halfway between Prague and Český Krumlov and can easily be visited on a day trip from either city. České Budějovice is famous for its brewery, which has been making beer since 1245. The brewery is open for tours and you can also taste some of the beer in the brewery’s pub. České Budějovice is also home to a large castle that dates back to the 13th century. The castle has been remodeled over the years and now houses a museum with exhibits on local history, weapons, armor and art. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat, there are plenty of options in Český Krumlov. There are several restaurants that serve traditional Czech food as well as international cuisine. One of the most famous restaurants there is  Český Krumlovský pivovar, which is a brewery that serves Český Krumlov beer.

In Český Krumlov, you can also find several cafes and bakeries where you can get pastries and other desserts. And if you want to try something really unique, there’s even a chocolate museum where you can learn about the history of chocolate making in Český Krumlov.
